US Tax Reform Plan main points, by Italian CPA

The long-awaited tax reform was quietly approved by the House and then signed by the US President on 22 December 2017.
It is, in fact, the most drastic change to US tax code of the last 30 years!

Here are the reform main points:
  • The corporate tax rate has been permanently cut from 35% to 21% for companies of all sizes and industry fields.
  • Top individual tax rate will drop to 37% from 39.6%
  • “Bonus depreciation” is increased to 100% (for machinery and equipment purchases it applies immediately and until 2022)
  • Multinationals and giant corporations will repatriate their capitals to the US with an 8% one-time tax on their earnings (15.5% in case of offshore cash) instead of the average 35% under current federal law (which will be terminated)
  • Meaningful advantages in the real estate industry
  • Business premises income deductibility
  • Tax reduction on individuals until 2025
  • Estate tax exemption (which lets heirs save on millions of dollars)
  • Student loan interest deduction
  • End of tax penalties for individuals who do not obtain health insurance coverage
What will be the medium to long-term results desired by the reform?
It is estimated that the federal budget will decrease of 1.5 billion $ over the next 10 years.
Since such great amount of money will remain in the business circle, US economic growth will literally boost and experience the following effects:
  • GDP growth up to 4%
  • The US stock-market could head a lot higher and grow dramatically
  • A medium-to-long term increase on banks and corporate earnings
  • Increase in jobs
  • The repatriation of foreign earnings and companies who had previously relocated (causing some understandable fears in Europe and China about possible economic losses in the coming years).

The IACCSE starts 2018 with exciting projects

Dear IACCSE members,

As we turn the page to a new year, I would like to wish you all a fulfilling and happy 2018, and thank you for your continuous commitment to the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce Southeast (IACCSE).

These past 12 months were certainly very exciting for our organization. We sent six delegations of US buyers to Italy, provided guidance and assistance to more than 100 entrepreneurs interested in exporting or investing in the US, and organized more than 20 local networking events, among exhibitions, seminars, and business breakfasts.

Last year was particularly special, as we launched two of IACCSE’s new events: “The Best of Italian Design”, aimed at building commercial ties between Italian design companies and American architects and designers; and the “Pizza Night” competition, where we all got to celebrate Italian gastronomy, while educating American consumers about real and authentic Italian food products. We also held our Holiday Gala Dinner & Pillar Awards Ceremony, which had the biggest attendance in years.

This is certainly an exciting time for the IACCSE, as thanks to our 2017 good financial results and operational improvements, this new year we will be able to reinvest in new thrilling projects to continue boosting the trade relationship between Italy and the US.

In 2018, we will not only continue with our signature events, but will also provide new useful services to our members, such as the J-1 Visa Program, which allow local companies to hire young Italian graduates as trainees or interns, or the Italian Lab, a startup incubator for Italian companies that approach the US market for the first time.

Finally, we are very glad to announce that the IACCSE will relocate to a new spacious office in the heart of the Brickell financial area, starting February 1st. The new address is 999 Brickell Avenue suite #1002, Miami, FL  33131. We are planning on a Grand Opening event for early April, so stay tuned for the invitation.

Again, thank you for your support to the IACCSE. I invite you to remain involved with the Chamber’s projects and please feel free to reach us at info@iaccse.com with your comments and suggestions for the new year ahead.

Warm Regards,

Tommaso Cardana

President

Istituto Marangoni, the leading Italian fashion, art and design school, announces the Group expansion into the Americas with the opening of the first US School in Miami’s Design District, the 10th in the world.

Istituto Marangoni was founded in 1935 in Milan and has more than 80 years of history and success in training the top professionals of Fashion and Design. Istituto Marangoni can praise itself for the education of four generations of students from 5 continents and for having launched over 45,000 professionals in fashion and luxury fields. It currently educates 4,000 students per year from 107 countries at its schools, located in Milano (the School of Fashion and the School of Design), Firenze (School of Fashion & Art), Paris, London, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Mumbai and Miami, the international capitals of fashion, design and luxury.

The prestigious school will now deliver the bran’s proven and unparalleled education model to top students throughout the US and Latin America.

The institution consistently plays a key role in shaping global fashion trends and holds the merit of creating some of the biggest names in the industry, including Domenico Dolce, Franco Moschino, Alessandro Sartori (Zegna Group Creative Director), Paula Cademartori, Julie de Libran (Artistic Director of Sonia Rykiel), Rocco Iannone (Creative Director of Pal Zileri), Maurizio Pecoraro brand owner and Istituto Marangon’s International Fashion Chair), and more.

Hakan Baykam, president of the new School, has identified the unique opportunity in Miami to pioneer a new fashion hub. As the visionary behind the expansion, he is building an impressive Istituto Marangoni Advisory Board in the Americas that consists of names like Esteban Cortazar, Craig Robins, Carlo ‘Amario, Oscar Feldenkreis, Karla Martinez, Milan Vukmirovic, Paula Cademartori and more. He is also curating a highprofile team of leaders for the new campus, which includes Massimo Casagrande (who is an Istituto Marangoni alumnus, founder of his own menswear label and former Versace designer) as Director of Education and Pablo Arbelaez as School Director.

” We were looking to create a new global fashion destination and selected Miami for its existing international allure and for its need for a firmly established fashion school. The city’s rapid growth in the design and art categories coupled with its accessibility to Latin America made it the perfect choice for us.”, said Baykam.

The Miami School will feature impressive course offerings beginning with short courses in winter of 2018.
